Medavie EMS Acquires Saskatoon-based MD Ambulance.

December 26, 2013

On December 26, 2013, MedWest EMS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie EMS, announced its acquisition of MD Ambulance effective January 1, 2014.

MD Ambulance was established in 1976 by Michael Dutchak and is recognized provincially and nationally as a leader in Emergency Medical Service (EMS). Medavie EMS is a Nova Scotia-based company that operates EMS services in five Canadian provinces and in Massachusetts. Medavie EMS has a proven and extensive track record of delivering effective and innovative healthcare, education and public safety and communications solutions.

“I have very mixed emotions today,” says David Dutchak, founder, president and CEO, MD Ambulance. “I’m very proud to have created this company with my father and to be part of this nationally-recognized EMS team. It was a difficult decision, but I believe this move will provide our employees and our community with additional opportunities as part of an innovative, well-established company like Medavie EMS.”

Dutchak will continue on as president and CEO of MD Ambulance and the company will continue to provide service under contract with the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority (SRHA) under Medavie EMS ownership.

“This is an exciting acquisition for us at Medavie EMS as it represents an opportunity to work with another top-notch EMS service and it gives us greater presence in Western Canada.” said Erik Sande, president, Medavie EMS. “We respect the legacy, depth and quality of service that Dave and the MD Ambulance team bring. We share a deep commitment to providing patients with the highest quality care and in developing health care solutions that effectively serve our communities’ needs. We also look forward to continuing the positive partnership in place with the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority.”
